April 24 2013 'Richie Havens passes, Public Enemy enter the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Rolf Harris gets nicked'

This show finds me in contemplative mood, as I muse on the passing of Richie Havens, the Divinyl's Chrissy Amphlett and the arrest of Rolf Harris as part of operation Yew Tree. I also discuss rapper DMX's trials and tribulations and TMZ's reports on the Boston Bombing suspects. Congratulations go out to Public Enemy for their induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and will listen to Annie and Dave tell us about the rain - even though it's sunny (of course it rained later in London)!

Playlist:
Public Enemy feat Anthrax - Bring The Noise
DMX - Slippin
DMX - Ain't No Sunshine
Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine
Richie Havens - Here Comes the Sun
Eurhythmics - Here Comes the Rain again
Divinyls - I Touch Myself

Ransom - His Shoes
Richie Havens - Eleanor Rigby

April 17 2013 'More Bombings and a Funeral'

*WARNING* Contains independent thought and opinions and some very powerful music!

It's been another hectic week in transatlantic news.

On 16 April there were bombings of the Boston marathon causing the tragic fatalities of 3 people including an 8 year old boy and injuring over 140 others (CNN)

On 17 April Lady Margaret Thatcher is laid to rest in London - amid continuing debate over her controversial legacy.

In other news: Jay-Z 'pens' and Open Letter on 11 April, addressing his recent 5 year wedding anniversary trip to Cuba with wife Beyonce, that stirred up so much comment.

And of course Tesco - the UK supermarket Goliath, tucks it's tail and runs out of the USA.

In the Yinka and the ID tradition the music is cross-genre - check out the storming Ike and Tina version of the Stones classic Under My Thumb.

I tackle these topics in my own (un)usual way. This is a must hear edition - you may agree or vehemently disagree with any or all things i say - please leave a comment and weigh in- and if you enjoy the show please share and spread the word.

Mar 13 2013 'Living Colour VIVID 25 year anniversary' episode

This is a very special edition of the show.
Wikipedia: Living Colour is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1984. Stylistically, the band's music is a creative fusion influenced by free jazz, funk, hip hop, hard rock, and heavy metal. Their lyrics range from the personal to the political, in some of the latter cases attacking Eurocentrism and racism in America. The band was discovered by Mick Jagger while playing a show at punk club CBGB's in 1987 & rose to fame with their debut album Vivid in 1988

I was honoured to be granted an exclusive interview with Living Colour's Vernon Reid and Corey Glover - right before they went on stage at Koko in London on Friday 8 March 2013 to perform their seminal, debut album VIVID in it's entirety to a packed house. They discuss topics far and wide with candour and humility. I've spoken with Vernon on a few occasions & our conversations are always enlightening but to have Corey join the discussion was something new. Enjoy!

A Tale of Two Millibands

In this week's show I talk about the uncommonly cold weather (it's Britain I HAVE to talk about the weather!) The leader of the UK opposition's older brother quitting politics, Abu Qatadar escaping extradition, Dionne Warwick owing the taxman and more. I also play the latest exclusive from incomparable mashup-meister Phil Retrospector, and quite by coincidence awesome music from Chloe Charles - Julian Lennon's step sister.
